Recently, TCL founder and chairman Li Dongsheng stated during an interview on CCTV's "Dialogue" program that based on our own development experience, there is currently no technology that can fully surpass LCD in large screen display. This was mentioned while discussing TCL Huaxing's proposed acquisition of LGD's LCD production line business in Guangzhou, and he also noted that this is a rare opportunity.

Recently, TCL founder and chairman Li Dongsheng stated during an interview on CCTV's 'Dialogue' program that based on our own development experience, there is currently no technology that can fully surpass LCD in large screen display. This was said while discussing TCL Huaxing's proposed acquisition of LGD's LCD production line in Guangzhou, and he also mentioned that this is a rare opportunity.

Currently, South Korean companies are strategically withdrawing from the LCD display industry and investing resources into the research and development of next-generation display technologies. TCL, with its deep accumulation in the field of LCD displays, sees that LCD still has irreplaceable advantages in large screen displays.

Although Mr. Li Dongsheng's remarks on the LCD industry chain issues are also to protect his own industry, as a practitioner in the home appliance industry, I believe that for now and for a long time to come, LCD display will still be the mainstream, especially in the large screen display field, where LCD will continue to dominate for a long time.

Firstly, after significant development, LCD technology has become the core of large screen displays, with a substantial share of shipments. This is also due to the cost advantages and technological advantages of LCD displays, which have already popularized 4K and 8K resolutions, leading the way in resolution. Although the 8K market is relatively small, the 8K resolution of LCD is very mature and more competitive compared to OLED.

Additionally, with the support of Mini LED backlight technology, the picture quality of LCD TVs has achieved a qualitative breakthrough, providing a wider color range and true color reproduction. Moreover, after decades of development, LCD technology has continuously improved in energy saving and environmental protection, gradually reducing power consumption and extending lifespan. These technological upgrades have given LCD displays the capital to maintain competitiveness.

Currently, LCD displays are widely used in various fields, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, televisions, and desktop monitors. In the era of the Internet of Things and smart homes, visual operation has become the first choice for human-computer interaction across various industries. Naturally, these interactive screens rely on traditional LCD displays.

Furthermore, with the application demands for human-computer interaction across various industries, LCD displays will be widely used in the automotive sector, industrial control, electronic transportation, smart healthcare, and more. The displays required in these fields must be stable, have excellent color, and most importantly, have a long lifespan. With these comprehensive advantages, LCD is naturally the best choice.

In the previous national 'Information Industry Development Guide', it was clearly stated that expanding the application fields of new display devices and achieving large-scale production of ultra-high-resolution LCD products should be one of the development priorities. Moreover, display device manufacturing was once included in the strategic emerging industries, vigorously promoting and developing the display industry, which has achieved significant success.

Currently, China has already taken a dominant position in the LCD panel field. According to statistics from Lottu Technology, as of the first half of 2024, the global panel shipment market shares of Chinese mainland panel manufacturers BOE, CSOT, and HKC are 23.8%, 20.6%, and 15.7%, respectively, accounting for over 60% of the global market share. Additionally, HKC achieved a shipment volume of approximately 21.85 million units, holding a 15.7% market share.

With the sale of some production lines from LGD and Innolux, it indicates that China's dominance in the LCD panel field has further advanced. Although China has an absolute market share in the LCD panel field, the outlook for Chinese panel companies is not optimistic. The intensifying competition will inevitably lead to integration and transformation in the LCD panel industry.

Currently, LCD panels are at a low price point, and coupled with fierce price war competition, there are no profits to be made in the LCD panel field. Many panel companies are still in a state of loss due to the severe price war. Under such a vicious cycle, Chinese panel companies are facing significant challenges.

Yang Fan, founder of the Home Appliance Network and a senior media person, stated that China has an absolute advantage in the LCD field of the display industry. Although LCD displays will still dominate for a long time in the future, the development of the display field is a process of continuous replacement of display technologies. With the emergence of more and more alternative technologies, LCD displays may also be replaced. The only consolation is that this day is still far away, and there is still ample time for domestic panel companies.

In summary, the competition in the LCD display panel field has basically come to an end, concluding with the victory of Chinese panel companies. For a long time to come, China will still dominate in the LCD field. However, the competition for next-generation display technologies has just begun, which is very much worth looking forward to.
